Don't be Scared! Plans for Integrated Horror Recs
Who doesn’t love a good horror
movie? A thrill or two, a jump scare,
and a bump in the night? Do you love watching Stephen King’s IT orginal and reboot? How about IT Chapter 2, The Haunting of Hill House, and
Rosemary’s Baby? They were Hollywood classics, and blockbuster box office hits, and they are scary good fun. If you enjoy the movies, why not try the
books? Hollywood got all their good ideas from somewhere- and a lot of times
that was from a book!
With integrated advisory, I would set up a display in the fall
with new and classic horror books and their movie and/or TV versions next to
each other to encourage cross-style checkouts.
Additionally- I would offer nonfiction companion books about horror
movies such as Wes Craven: The Man and his Nightmares by John Wooley,
and The Satanic Screen by Nikolas Schreck. I would also make a complementary audiobook
and e-book list that could be taken on cards or bookmarks from the display to
complement the display.
This display would also be promoted online through Facebook
and our website. On the website we could
link the digital lists we printed and placed on the display. Additionally, we could also link to Hoopla
movies that connected, and post links to Novelist Horror Lists that connected
to Shows. They have a list titled, “For
Fans of Stranger Things,” “For
Fans of The Walking Dead,” and “For
Fans of American Horror Story.” By connecting
all of these resources together, we would be able to provide resources in
person and online to help patrons find the perfect book and movie combos!
This is such an awesome idea! I think it is great that you took into consideration the time of year that this display would probably work best in as well as how to incorporate other resources offered by the library (i.e. hoopla and Novelist). I also think it is great to include nonfiction counterparts. I know I would be interested in checking those out for sure, even though I am not a huge fan of the horror genre.
ReplyDeleteI love that you're also working to promote digital resources AND nonfiction! Now that is a good display. Great idea and full points!
